Festival Highlights

The word solstice derives from the Latin sol [sun] and sister [to stand still], Winter Solstice meaning Sun standstill in winter

Winter solstice is seasonally significant as the reversal of the gradually lengthening nights and shortening days takes place.  Winter solstice is often viewed as a time of rebirth as the days begin to lengthen in the Northern Hemisphere.  There are many types of celebrations among different cultures.
